Spend an Afternoon with Dad under the Tree at June 21st Tree Tour

Treat Dad to an up close and personal afternoon with Goleta Valley arboricultural treasures at the annual Goleta Valley Heritage Tree Tour, Sunday June 21st. New locations added to this year’s tour include a walk on the grounds of the historic Lillard/Mangini House (not open to the public), a tour of Exotic Palms on the UCSB Campus before the tour is opened up to the public, an update on the efforts to save the 54 Moreton Bay Fig Trees at Dos Pueblos ranch from suffocation by invasive ivy, and an examination of the Ellwood Coopers efforts a century ago to promote eucalyptus at Santa Barbara Shores and what it means to us today. Another private property opening their gates for this event only is Bishop Ranch, home to unspoiled relics of ranchero living from a century ago, and Randy Baldwin’s secret gardens at his home within San Marcos Growers.

This is the 8th consecutive year Santa Barbara Airbus will be sponsoring the tour. Participants will relax aboard a 50 passenger bus with arborists Jerry Sortomme, Randy Baldwin, Ken Knight and Bill Millar available to provide comments and answer questions.

The tour begins at noon with a no host lunch at the Sizzler Restaurant, 5555 Hollister Avenue, on the patio, surrounding the Landmark Witness Tree. The bus tour will leave from Sizzler at 1:00 PM and return at 5 PM.

Tickets are $25.00 before June 14th and $35.00 after, and are available through Goleta Valley Beautiful Board members or by calling 685-7910.
